Week 8
Due: 5pm, Friday, October 14, in your Collab dropbox folder

As we begin reading and thinking about how Japanese society might or might not be changing in fundamental ways, I'd like you to make a prediction: where you might expect to find the most movement toward change? Which institutions, actors, or ideologies might represent the most significance social change? In your response, please discuss your ideas by elaborating on the (literal or figurative) locations from which you expect calls for change to emanate. For example, in our conversations about the education system, many of you had ideas about how the system could be reorganized to be less painful. Do you imagine social change to be prompted by calls to re-form the school system? Or do you imagine other arenas and institutions more likely to be the foci of calls for change? Feel free to craft your answer around any of the institutions, characters, or ideologies we have discussed so far in the semester.
