This training exersize provides a general overview of proper surgical technique and basic considerations for anesthesia, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative care. PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals specifically states that survival surgery must be performed using aseptic technique and appropriate pre- and post-operative care. There are 3 separate modules in this training exersize that address different aspects of this subject. Navigating through the modules is fairly straightforward. The program should advance automatically once you click on the training module you wish to watch. You can advance forward or go back using the arrow buttons on the upper left. The main module and suturing modules are recommended for anyone doing survival surgery in rodents. The third module, "Special considerations for aseptic surgery in a transgenic mouse facility" repeats in synopsis form much of what is covered in the main module.
