Education:
BS Mechanical Engineering, University of Virginia
Background: Robert Crowell received
a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University
of Virginia in December, 1981. His engineering education focused on thermodynamic
mechanical systems and energy analysis, with a strong interest in renewable
energy sources and energy conservation. During his college years, Mr.
Crowell worked in the construction field learning building construction
techniques. Upon graduation, he continued his work in the construction
field for a year and also became involved in the design and installation
of active solar systems for residential space and domestic water heating.
In 1983, Mr. Crowell joined the consulting engineering firm of EEA Consulting
Engineers, PC in Charlottesville, Virginia, as a design engineer. At this
position, he was responsible for the design of mechanical and plumbing
systems for institutions, commercial and public housing facilities; energy
audits of public housing authorities; and supervision of drafting staff.
It was during this time that Robert also studied and practiced the design
of electrical and lighting systems for buildings. The majority of projects
with which he was involved were for the University of Virginia in Charlottesville
and the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
In 1985, Robert co-founded the firm of 2 RW Consulting Engineers, PC in
Charlottesville, Virginia, and has served as vice president since. The
majority of work performed by the firm during the first five years of
business included mechanical, plumbing and electrical building systems
design and energy conservation. Since its founding, 2 RW has had a continuous
relationship with the Virginia Division of Energy, acting as the division's
technical support for energy conservation programs, technical training
and alternative financing research. In more recent years, facility assessments
and performance contracting have become major markets to compliment the
firm's other offerings. The firm provides services throughout the world,
including the United States, Caribbean Islands, Western Europe and the
Middle East.
Mr. Crowell's responsibilities at 2 RW are varied. He is responsible for
marking the firm's services and on-going client relations; managing the
business, managing the engineering and technical staff; project management;
and, of course, using his engineering experience in building systems.
