Atomic Cluster Beam Experiment

Two vacuum chambers are located in the Ultrafast Laser Facility for conformational studies of alkali halides. Charged clusters are produced in one vacuum chamber and extracted via time-of-flight methods into the second. The extraction process segregates the clusters by mass/charge ratio so that electron spectroscopy can be performed on known cluster sizes to determine shape and dynamical information.
