Directions to the Lab

Beginning in the Summer of 2005, there are two locations where research on child development takes place at UVa. One is on-grounds in Gilmer Hall, and one is off-grounds behind Barracks Road Shopping Center. If you have an appointment with the Child Language & Learning Lab, your visit will take place at the off-grounds location, which is at 1023 Millmont Street.

Plenty of easy and free parking is provided directly in front of the building. We will meet you and your child in the parking lot, and escort you inside.

From the 250 bypass, take the Barracks Road Exit east towards Charlottesville. At the intersection of Barracks Road and Millmont, turn RIGHT on Millmont Street. The entrance to 1023 Millmont will be nearly at the end of Millmont Street on your RIGHT, between the entrance to the "Millmont Shops" complex and what used to be the "Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic Center". If you come to the stoplight at Arlington, you have gone too far!

You can park anywhere in the lot. The main building houses the University of Virginia's Institute on Aging. The smaller building you'll see on the left (with a gate in front) is our "cottage." We will meet you and your child outside and escort you into our waiting room.
