We'll be reading examples of epic and romance, lyric poetry and drama, ranging in time from the Anglo-Saxon heroic poem Beowulf to Milton's 17th century epic Paradise Lost. There will be two lectures and one discussion section per week, two five page papers, e-mail responses, a midterm, and a comprehensive final examination. Please note that you will not be able to enroll in advance in a discussion section: these will be sorted out in the first week of lectures. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO ADD INTO THIS COURSE AFTER WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1.
