The laser trap transducer
Our laser trap is based on an Olympus
IX70 inverted microscope, equipped with
rhodamine epifluorescence and
brightfield. Our novel design can generate up to six simultaneous laser traps in a single
field of view with simultaneous monitoring of displacement in each trap. Little more
can be said about the design, as we have not yet published (sorry). Protein Biochemistry
We
have a state-of-the-art Sorvall GX120 MicroUltra Centrifuge, capable of
spinning volumes as small as 0.2 ml at nearly 700,000g and tubes as large
as 8ml at well over 200,000g. 0.2ml × 20 rotor and a 5ml × 8 fixed-angle
rotors are currently in place for micro and preparative work. We also have
a BioRad Ready-Gel electrophoresis system, chromatography refrigerator (49
ft2) and chest freezer (5 ft2), a Spec20 Genesys spectrophotometer (Spectronics),
an ultrasonic cell dismembranator (Virsonic), a pH/ion meter (Orion 720A),
a tabletop centrifuge (Fisher Marathon 10H), a MiniBeadBeater tissue homogenizer
and analytical and top-loading balances (Mettler-Toledo). Additional resources
are available through the department. Electronics
Digital storage oscilloscopes (Tektronix), digital power supplis, digital multimeters (Fluke) and many supplies and accessories are available in the lab. Many additional resources are available through the department's electronics teaching laboratory. |
