The links in the bottom navigation element point to resources that one can obtain from Collab. Plan on making this site your main connection for our class; the U.Va. Collab site will be referenced from here as needed. There are links between the two, so you can pass back and forth. Some links here point to resources requiring knowledge of a local userid and password. We shall provide those credentials in the class meetings.

Here are links to some materials for students' review.
  • Here's a little diagram describing a big idea: BehaviorEnvironment.
  • Download a PDF explaining JWL's thoughts about students' honor committment. It is very important that students understand what actions constitute plagiarism; if you have not done so recently, please review the U.Va. Honor Committee's document discussing plagiarism.
  • Lots of our readings come from the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA). The professional society that owns JABA makes articles avialable for free on the Internet approximately six months after they have appeared in print, so here's a link that will permit students access to those articles (greater than 2500 of them).

Tests and Such:
Here's some info about the Behavior Vocabulary and Concepts Measures. They are administered using U.Va. Collab so go to Collab and navigate to the "Tests & Quizzes."
  1. There will be a practice test available.
  2. You will be able to take these assessments multiple times. We want to see how your scores progress across the semester. As you learn more, they should improve. Don't be alarmed if your scores are low in the beginning. If you knew it all at the start, that would be surprising.
  3. In addition to the readings in the text and the supplements, to prepare for the mid-term exam, students may want to consult these (and other sources):
    • Visit the University of South Florida's Behavior Analysis Glossary where you can search by term or you can locate terms in an alphabetical list. It's quite extensive. (Search was malfunctioning one time I visited [20110822], but it was O.K. as of 20120827 and the catalog was still O.K. both times—JWL.)
    • Mis-uses of common terms: In the everyday world, terms such as "reward" and "reinforcer" may seem like synonyms, but in behavior analysis using them as if they are synonymous is a mistake. That's just one of many common misuses of behavior analytic terms captured on Misrepresentation Grab Bag: Common Misuses Of Vocabulary. Check it and learn more! (And, while you're there, check some of the other misunderstandings that are explained on the pages associated with the links in the accompanying navigation element.)
    • Amanda Kelly (AKA BehaviorBabe) has a page called "Acronyms and Terms" that a reader might find helpful. There are a few dozen terms and definitions there.
    • And, remember, there's a non-exhaustive list of recommended terms available in the Collab site, too.
