In order to combat diseases such as pandemic influenza, we have helped to develop the Folding@Home distributed computing platform, a powerful system for worldwide distributed computing to better understand fundamental biological processes and combat diseases.  We are also developing worldwide systems for infectious disease surveillance and analysis.  Shown above are locations of recent Folding@Home clients projected onto a world map.

Our research concentrates on combining biophysical experiments and large-scale computational techniques for mechanistic insight in three areas:  membrane fusion, infection by influenza viruses, and rapid diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant infections.
