KEVIN DOYLE, ED.D., LPC, LSATP, MAC
Kevin Doyle, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia since 1989, received his doctorate in Counselor Education from the
University of Virginia in 1999 and holds an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Counseling Psychology from James Madison
University. He is also licensed as a Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) in Virginia and certified nationally as a
Master Addictions Counselor (MAC). He earned a B.A. in American Studies from the College of William and Mary in 1982.
Currently the Vice-President/Chief Enhancement Officer for Vanguard Services Unlimited, a non–profit
substance abuse treatment agency based in Arlington (Va.), he was Vanguard’s Director of Development from
1994 to 2002 and the Program Director of Vanguard’s Deep Run Lodge program for adolescents from its
inception in 1990 until 1994. He has worked in inpatient, outpatient, residential, corrections, and
private practice settings since 1986, specializing in adolescent substance abuse treatment and recovery.
In addition to substance abuse counseling, his professional interests include counseling ethics, the
recovering college student, multicultural counseling, recovery advocacy, and adolescents. He teaches at the
University of Virginia in Charlottesville and has presented at numerous local, regional, state, national,
and international conferences.
In August of 2002, he was appointed by Governor Mark R. Warner to the Board of Counseling for the
Commonwealth of Virginia. Doyle is a Past-President of the Virginia Association of Alcoholism and Drug
Abuse Counselors (VAADAC) and previously served as President of both the Central Region of VAADAC and of
the Fredericksburg Chapter. He served as the Chair of VAADAC’s Government Relations Committee from
2000-2002 and received VAADAC’s Walter Kloetzli Award for meritorious service in 2003. He was selected for
membership in Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society in 1997 and served as the Chairman
of the Ethics committee of the International Association of Addictions and Offenders Counselors from
1997-1998.
In addition to NAADAC/VAADAC, Mr. Doyle is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association
for Counselor Education and Supervision, the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Educators, the
Virginia Counselors Association, the Jefferson Counselors Association, and the Substance Abuse and Addiction
Recovery Alliance. He also is a national Board member for Substance Abuse Recovery on College Campuses
(SARCC) and served as a representative to the Consortium of Substance Addiction Organizations, a statewide
advocacy organization in Virginia.
Doyle has published several articles in refereed journals and trade publications, primarily focusing on the
professional interests noted above.
He resides in Charlottesville (Va.) with his wife, two sons and one daughter.
