Discussion Section Policies:
1) 20% of your final grade for SLFK 215 comes from your discussion section. Discussion grades will be determined by class participation, attendance, and occasional written assignments.
2) Class Participation: You must do the readings, and be prepared to discuss them in thoughtful and active ways. Your participation in class will be noted each week and will factor into your final grade.
3) Attendance: Attendance will be taken at each discussion section. Three unexcused absences will result in a zero for the discussion section (20% of your grade). If you have reason to be absent, you must notify me 24 hours in advance, by phone, email, or in person. After one absence, excused or unexcused, you will be given additional written assignments in order to reflect your understanding of the readings.
4) Papers: A third of your grade will be deducted for each day the paper is turned in late. For example, should you turn in a paper one day late, instead of receiving a grade of B, you will receive a B-. Two days late equals a C+, etc.
Section Goals
1. To aid in comprehension of the course goals.
2. To discuss, dissect, and examine information presented in lecture and in the readings.
Section Expectations

2. Contribute to large and small group discussions, and listen and respond to others' contributions.
3. Keep up with the readings for the course, formulate questions, and jot down comments as you read.
4. Complete occasional written assignments on time.
5. Bring current reading, paper, and pen to class. It is almost certain that they will be used each section meeting.
