Linguistic Anthropology Program Resources

The Hymes Library

The department houses a vast collection of journals and books covering half a century of research in linguistics, anthropology, sociolinguistics, and linguistic anthropology.

The Library includes work space, reading space, and a research computing station--as well as the collection of books and journals.

Materials in the library were donated by emeritus professors of linguistic anthropology, Dell and Virginia Hymes.

This non-circulating collection is a unique resource for ... Meticulously catalogued and shelved.

The work space also includes many tools of linguistic research: a computer workstation, digital and analogue recording equipment, and a transcribing machine for analogue tape recordings.
