Would you like to create an environment that encourages students to take responsibility for learning, thus working harder and contributing and learning more?

If so, consider this workshop.

What will we do?

  • learn how to establish such an environment
  • consider benefits for both teacher and students
  • experience some recommended techniques
  • discuss the value of explicit teaching
  • see how to promote student responsibility in several ways

    • through collaboration between teacher and students
    • through your recognizing what students can contribute
    • through checking in with your students

What will you gain?

  • You will learn how your attitudes about students and your approaches to teaching your discipline can promote students’ taking responsibility.
  • You will get proven techniques for engaging students to take some responsibility for their own learning, for classmates’ progress, and for the success of the course.
  • You will hear what students think about these approaches.
  • You will have a chance to apply new ideas to your courses.
