Writing well is one of the greatest intellectual challenges; no wonder it is difficult to teach students to write meaningfully, coherently, persuasively in a foreign language. Along with sharing ideas and concerns about assigning and grading students’ writing in 200-level courses and above, workshop participants consider the value of teaching writing as a process, various ways to develop students’ writing skills (including peer-editing), and some techniques for grading final drafts.
