Last Neuroscience Information Session for Fall 2011:November 21, Monday, 4:30 Gilmer 166Interested in the Neuroscience Major? Come to an informal information session on Monday, November 21 at 4:30 pm in Gilmer 166. It's a great opportunity to talk with current majors and professors about topics like pre-requisites, applications, research, classes and more. Information about the major will be available, but the event will provide an relaxed setting to talk to current 3rd and 4th year students about the Neuroscience program. Refreshments will be served.
In addition, prospective students can send an email and come to Gilmer 187 for Prof. Erisir's office hours: Wed 10am -11:00, Thu 2-3pm.
Objectives of the Major: 1. To provide students with a structure for coursework that assures a
solid grounding in natural science and an overall familiarity with neuroscience
as a discipline. Students: A maximum of 25 students will be selected for the program each year from a pool of applicants. Students will be chosen on the basis of prior academic performance and an essay explaining the student’s interest in neuroscience. The program will provide majors with a background and skills for continued study in graduate and professional schools. The major is designed for students with a strong interest in the biology of the nervous system and a desire to conduct original research with U.Va. neuroscientists (e.g., future PhD or combined MD/Ph.D. students). It is not meant for pre-professional students that have no (or little) interest in research; they would be better served by participating in activities that enhance their chances in getting into medical school.
