EDHS 722: INTRODUCTION TO CAREER INTERVENTIONS
SPRING 2007

LEARNING TEAMS

To assist in meeting the EDHS 722 goals, learners will be organized into learning teams of approximately four members. Learning team membership will remain stable throughout the course to maximize potential advantages of the experience. The learning teams will serve several purposes including: (1) providing assistance to other members in completing assignments and mastery of course concepts, (2) providing support and encouragement to other team members and (3) providing an opportunity to discuss, debate and apply course material in depth in a small group setting. In addition there are three specific learning team assignments.

The learning teams will be organized by the third class meeting. Ideally, each team will be homogeneous in terms of intended counseling setting but teams should combine a mixture of various learner backgrounds and experiences. These teams of peers will provide an opportunity to grapple with issues and concepts related to the career interventions by professional counselors.

Activities of the learning teams will include:

  1. Participation in class exercises and discussions.
  2. Review and reinforce important concepts from class presentations and discussions.
  3. Serve as a "panel of peers" to review presentations of other learning teams during in class discussions and the presentation of the career counseling program.
  4. Provide support and study resources for tests. (This is optional, but as noted in the requirements section on tests, learning teams can certainly study together!)

Learning Team Assignments (See Requirements for details.)

  1. A critique of a career assessment instrument (test or inventory) and posting of that assessment on the EDHS 722 Discussion Site
  2. A critique of a career counseling resource or service and posting of that critique on the EDHS 722 Discussion Site.
  3. A program plan for career interventions in a designated work setting. The learning team will present the plan during the April 25 class meeting and will either post or distribute descriptions and information about the three activities presented as part of the program proposed.

As aspiring professional counselors, each member brings to the learning team unique experiences, backgrounds and skills. The learning team will provide an opportunity to enrich the learning experience for others in the course through appropriate sharing and professional dialogue. The team experience is designed to facilitate synthesis of course concepts. The learning teams are not designed to provide a group counseling experience.
