I have included below the brief statement I provide when I am asked for material to use in an introduction. The information provides highlights of what the Curry School and the profession of counseling have done for me in my 38-year career at the Curry School. As I enter my 39th year, I continue to be grateful for the many rewarding opportunities the Curry School has given me. T

Bob Pate
Bob came to the Curry School in 1968 to join Counselor Education faculty and he is a professor in that program. He has been Curry Associate Dean for Administrative Services since 1995 and was appointed the William Clay Parrish, Jr. Professor in 2003. Bob was selected as the 1993 outstanding professor in the Curry School and he has been elected to membership in the Raven Society and Omicron Delta Kappa at the University of Virginia. He is treasurer of the Curry School of Education Foundation and was Co-Chair of the Curry Centennial Committee. He has received both the William H. VanHoose and John R. Cook awards from the Virginia Counselors Association, and he is a past president of that Association. Bob was the 1996-97 chair of the National Board for Certified Counselors, the national professional certification board for counselors. Chi Sigma Iota, the Counseling International Honorary Society, presented Bob the Thomas J. Sweeney Professional Leadership Award at the April 2006 American Counseling Association Convention at Montreal. Bob's recent publications have been on the topics of the ethical issues in counseling, the relationship between spirituality and counseling, and uses of the Internet in counselor education.
Bob is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. His area of professional practice is life and career planning. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) since 1968. He was for many years a Leadership Development Team facilitator, and he is now a facilitator in the FEI executive assessment and development programs. Bob is active in community activities of his church and is a 14 gallon blood donor. His pleasure activities include reading, minor league baseball and being a grandfather to four granddaughters.
