EDHS 733: ETHICAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF COUNSELING

INSTRUCTOR NOTES

What are instructor notes?
I will use the Instructor Notes page to communicate general information to learners in the Fall 2006 section of EDHS 733. The notes will be inserted in reverse order so the newest note will be at the top of the numbered list of notes. If you need clarifications please feel free to phone me or e-mail me.

Doctoral Teaching Assistants
Amanda Flora and Ben Paxton will assist me in the course. I have asked them to write a brief statement to link the Instructor Notes. Amanda will be responsible for formative assessment and Ben will be our general ethics resource.

Class schedule changes
In case of inclement weather on any Wednesday night or if for any reason EDHS 733 will not meet, I will notify you by e-mail.

Acknowledgment
I acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of my friend and colleague, Harriet Glosoff. Harriet has been a leader in the ACA Ethics Committee and was one of the authors of the 2005 ACA Code of Ethics. Harriet is currently serving as president of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and her fall travel schedule prevented her from teaching this course as usual. She has made available materials from previous offerings of EDHS 733 for our use. We will benefit from her contribution and her presentation November 29.

Note 6 Suggestions for scheduling work

The ethics codes study should be done first and I suggest September 6 as a goal. Everyone but those who have a 30th birthday on September 13 should have a topic and a plan for the Self-Directed learning by September 13. Those who have the special exemption should catch up by September 20. The Learning Teams should have a plan and be working by October 18. The Activity Points should be spread across the semester based on your schedule and the schedule of those you will work with for example, on the synchronous chat. The basic idea is that you spread your work across the semester and say on November 29, "this course is so easy, I am surprised I learned so much that is important to being a professional counselor who practices ethically and legally.

Note 5 Formative Assessment

The first formative assessment quiz is posted on the course material site in the folder, "FormativeAssessmentAmanda." The link takes you to the materials sign in. Once there you will find Amanda's folder. Respond to the assessment for the week and send it to Amanda (agf8n) as an attachment. She will return the graded assessment to you.
