EDHS 733: ETHICAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF COUNSELING

  Learning Teams

To assist in meeting the EDHS 733 goals, learners will be organized into learning teams of four to six members. Learning team membership will remain stable throughout the course to maximize potential advantages of the experience. The learning teams will serve several purposes including: (1) providing assistance to other members in completing assignments and mastering course concepts, (2) providing support and encouragement to other team members and (3) providing an opportunity to discuss, debate and apply course material in depth in a small group setting. In addition there are three specific learning team assignments.

The learning teams will be organized by the third class meeting. Ideally, each team will be homogeneous in terms of intended counseling setting but teams should combine a mixture of various learner backgrounds and experiences. These teams of peers will provide an opportunity to grapple with issues and concepts related to the ethical and legal aspects of counseling.

Activities of the learning teams will include:

Participation in class exercises and discussions.

  1. Review and reinforce important concepts from class presentations and discussions.
  2. Serve as a "panel of peers" to review presentations of other learning teams during in class discussions and the presentation of the career counseling program.
  3. Provide support and study resources for tests. (This is optional, but as noted in the requirements section on tests, learning teams can certainly study together!)
  4. Study cases and report to the class on the team analysis.

Learning Team Assignments

  1. Post on the class discussion site a team analysis of the ethical and legal principles involved in a provided case study and respond to class member questions and comments.
  2. Critique an Internet counseling resource or service and post an analysis of the site's compliance with ACA and NBCC standards for Internet counseling services on the EDHS 733 Discussion Site.

The learning team will provide an opportunity to enrich your learning experience EDHS 733 through appropriate sharing and professional dialogue. The team experience is designed to facilitate synthesis of ethical and legal concepts. The learning teams are not designed to provide a group counseling experience.
