The course will be offered as a blended lecture discussion/directed reading/web based course. The lecture discussion sessions will be held in Ruffner Hall 187 from 12:30 - 3:15 PM on the dates listed in the following schedule.

The importance of spiritual and religious beliefs in our culture and how those beliefs are related to psychologically based "helping."

Guest: Chris Loss, on his research, The Therapeutic Ethos in 20th Century History.

November 8

Guests: Integrating client spirituality and religious practice into counseling and therapy.

Dr. William H. Anderson,Licensed Staff Psychologist, UVA Counseling and Psychological Services.

Dr. Peter L. Sheras, Professor, Curry School Program in Clinical and School Psychology.

  Discussion of guest presentations.
November 15 Class Discussion of reading. The discussion will be based on questions and issues raised by reading for the course.
 

Video: Cashwell, C.S. & Yarborough, J. P (2005). Integrating Spirituality into Counseling.

November 29 Application discussion and role play of situations. Situations will be solicited from course members and they will be the basis of course "real-plays" that will be discussed from the perspective of counseling.
December 9 (Friday)

University scheduled examination period is 2:00 - 5:00 PM; e-mailed examination due by 5 PM.
No class session. - All work due.
