Contemporary Issues in American Higher Education

Surveys selected major problems or issues facing contemporary American higher education.

Prerequisite

For students in the SWVA Social Foundations of Education (Higher Education) M Ed program in SWVA or permission of the program coordinator.

Course Format 

The course will be offered as an extended learning course and will combine meetings at the SWVA Higher Education Center with Internet directed study. The course meetings will be primarily activity and discussion with little emphasis on the instructor lectures The guest speakers will supplement the assigned and suggested reading. Time will be provided in each class meeting for questions and discussion related to the readings. The discussion segments of the course will be based on an assumption of prior reading and there will not be a lecture summary of the reading. Some class discussions and activities will be conducted in teams. The Learning Teams are described in a separate page. One class meeting will be presentations by student teams.
