Welcome to the website for the political theory graduate program in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. The Department is strongly committed to the field, with seven full-time faculty members in political theory and several other people in the Department teaching theory courses. Diversity of approaches, both methodological and substantive, is central to the UVa program. The theory program is ranked in the top ten by US News and World Report.
Our most important recent news is that we have a new theorist joining us. In fall 2009, Christopher Lebron will also join us as an Assistant Professor. Chris received his doctorate in 2009 from MIT. His research interests are broadly located within non-ideal theory. His book manuscript addresses racial inequality and justice, and his latest project is on the relationship between luck, blame, and normative political theory.
