Identify/Generate the principle
Time: 20-30 minutes
1. Find a brief passage from an academic/professional journal article
in your theme/topic. Choose a passage (at least twenty-five lines)
that is difficult to understand. Photocopy and ask students to
rewrite the passage so that the subjects and verbs are characters
and actions, and the number of nominalizations is reduced.

2. Find a passage in a general interest/popular magazine that describes
the theme/topic. Photocopy and ask students to re-write it for
an audience of specialists.
