Style Workshops
Workshop: The Paragraph
This worksheet focuses on evaluating sentence-level style (characters and actions, information flow) in a single paragraph by using the LRS First Six Words test of sentence clarity.
Quick Sentence Revision
This quick workshop can be add-on to argument or problem statement workshops or as a very short stand-alone workshop.
Sentence-Level Workshop: Different
Paragraphs
In this workshop, writers are asked to identify the most challenging and
least challenging paragraphs in a paper. The paragraphs are then analyzed
using old to new, short to lang, characters and actions, and topic string
principles.
This workshop helps to reinforce the idea that style depends
on content: in the paragraph with the most challenging content, it's most
appropriate to have easily-digested sentences (clear characters and actions,
focused topic strings, only a few words before the verb); in the paragraph
with the least challenging content, it's more interesting to challenge
readers with more complicated style (more abstract characters and actions,
mixed topic
strings, longer phrases before the verb).
