The Program in International
Law
at the University of Virginia School of Law
during the 1999-2000 Academic Year
Consonant with its general purposes, the 1999-2000 Academic Year saw the Program bring a variety of outside speakers to the Law School with practical experience in formulating international law and international policy, and bring to the World Wide Web a variety of materials designed to assist students interested in international legal issues.

In 1999-2000, the Program brought three outside speakers to the Law School who were familiar with the policymaking process in international environmental law:
- Kalee Kreider of the National Environmental Trust, who recounted her experiences working for environmentally oriented NGOs and who surveyed the political obstacles to the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol;
- Professor Dale Thompson of Virginia Tech, who compared market-oriented methods for reducing atmospheric emissions in the Los Angeles basin and in the global atmosphere; and
- Dr. David Victor of the Council on Foreign Relations, who discussed why he thinks that the Kyoto Protocol is doomed and why a technology-oriented approach to the climate-change problem has a better chance of success.

The Program improved and maintained a set of highly organized pages of links for students conducting research on international legal topics who wish to examine the international political context and historical background of their topics.
The Program converted a print brochure entitled International Law at the University of Virginia School of Law into an on-line brochure describing the Law School's internationally oriented faculty, courses, and programs.
