Astronomy 512 - Spring 2006 - Assignment 1

  1. Reproduce Herschel's experment. You may use any procedure and material you choose. Please avoid looking for hints (at first) on the web, as the experiment is detailed in several places. You will work as a group, but each individual should turn in a report in his/her lab notebook detailing the experiment and results. Make an effort to produce precise results and to push the experment to its limits. Don't forget to report well-reasoned uncertainties for your measured values.

  2. Make your best measurement of the Solar constant (the amount of energy falling on each square centimeter).

Due Friday February 3 (weather permitting).
