Who was Rosie? Why did Norman Rockwell choose her for his subject matter in this work? Why did he depict her in this manner? Who saw this image? How was this work recieved in the United States? What does Rockwell's Rosie tell us about 1940s America? These are some of the questions we will ask in this class as we explore the relationship between artistic production/reception and some of the major political, economic, social, and cultural developments in the late nineteenth and twentieth century United States.
