RESEARCH INTERESTS The work going on in the lab is divided into two different areas: mechanisms of innate immune response to infection and characterization of molecular alterations in gastric cancer. At first glance these two areas may seem very far removed from each other. However, with the identification of the gram-negative bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, as a major risk factor for the development of stomach cancer, the host response to infection and carcinogenesis may actually be quite closely related.
