Bladder Cancer

Cancer of the urinary bladder is the second most common urologic malignancy. The worldwide incidence of bladder cancer is approximately 200,000 patients per year with 120,000 annual deaths. It affects more males than females by a 3:1 ratio. By clicking on the links below, you will see a slide show which will help you understand bladder cancer. A second presentation is also included that discusses the "neobladder" operation. I carry out this operation for both male and female patients that wish to urinate normally through the urethra even after the bladder is removed. However, as you will see from this presentation, this operation is not for everyone. Finally, even more information can be obtained on bladder cancer from my Clinical Research page and the Patient Resources web page.

  2. Presentation that discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the "neobladder" operation as well as which patients are most suitable for it.

  3. A slide show that shows you how I do the "neobladder" operation

I recently developed a modification of the "neobladder" operation which allows this operation to be used in a greater number of patients and is more easy to manage if a patient's cancer returns.
