TEACHING

Introduction to Plant Biology
(BIOL 318)
Fall Semesters
A lecture course providing a basic survey of the plant kingdom and discussion of major physiological and genetic activities of plants. Primarily focused for biology majors, but also taken by non-majors and BA/MT candidates.
Current Topics in Plant Molecular Biology
(BIOL 509)
Spring Semesters
An advanced undergraduate/graduate level course discussing a major theme in plant molecular biology throughout the semester. Recent focus has been on genomic based analysis. The course services 12-15 students per semester. Combination of lectures, guest lectures, and student presentations, current literature review.
Capstone Seminar in
Human Biology
(HBIO 481, 482)

A weekly seminar co-organized by participating faculty integrating discussions of participating students' independent research and coursework with contemporary issues at the intersection of biology, the humanities and social sciences. Students will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research and meet with outside speakers. This course is restricted to fourth year students who are participants in the Distinguished Major Program in Human Biology.

Independent Research for Human Biology
(HBIO 495 and HBIO 496)
Independent research associated with the development of a thesis project for the Distinguished Major in Human Biology. This course is restricted to third year students who are participants in the Distinguished Major Program in Human Biology and wish to begin pursuing independent laboratory or library based research that will lead to the development of a topic and project for their thesis research.
Thesis Research for
Human Biology
(HBIO 497 and HBIO 498)
Independent research that will provide the foundation for the student's required thesis in the Distinguished Major Program in Human Biology. Research projects may be pursued in any department of the College of Arts and Sciences and must be completed under the direction of two faculty advisors, one of whom will be from the Department of Biology. Projects proposed for outside the College will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Course is restricted to fourth year students who are participants in the Distinguished Major Program in Human Biology. The first semester is S/U; second semester is graded.
